It is possible that the fibrous tissue and the neck vertebrae have been damaged. This might just be a slight damage, but it can also be quite serious, resulting in acute pain, ringing in the ears, lameness of the neck, arms, shoulders or hands as well as headaches, blurred vision, nausea, memory loss,\u00a0or lack of concentration. Damage which results from whiplash can be serious and long-lasting.<\/p>\n<h2><i>What causes whiplash?<\/i><\/h2>\n<p>Whiplash, also known as deceleration or retroflexion trauma, is usually caused by a forward, backward or lateral movement of the neck and head, commonly caused as a result of a full frontal accident or a an accident from the rear or the side.<\/p>\n<h2><i>Should I worry about whiplash?<\/i><\/h2>\n<p>Whiplash can cause overstretching or tearing of the muscles in the neck or other tissue. Depending on the magnitude of the overstretching or tears, it is possible for your spinal column to become extremely unstable. Whiplashes can lead to one or more obstructions in the vertebrae. Ongoing instability in the spinal column can result in a general deterioration in the region concerned, something which one does not immediately relate to the whiplash<\/p>\n<h2><i>How can we help?<\/i><\/h2>\n<p>A chiropractor is specially trained to detect and treat whiplash. Someone who has a light form of whiplash often responds well to Chiropractic and normally recovers quite quickly. Someone with a more serious form of whiplash will usually require a longer time to recover. This is because damage to the cervical vertebrae, the connecting muscles, tendons and ligaments is more extensive.
